3: SPEARFISHING – Bay Of Plenty

We dive the bay of plenty including Mayor island, White Island, Motiti Island, Astrolabe reef and a few other places.
Groups of 6 or 7 divers arrive on a Saturday and stay until the next Saturday.
We dive the best 5 days of the week.
We supply a house, lunch on the boat and a guide in the water to assist or teach.
We take one kingfish per day per diver as well as snapper, trevally, pink mao mao, kahawai, butterfish and many others.
We don’t kill fish for burly and all frames are passed out to the local community for dinner so nothing is wasted.
Divers are welcome to keep all their fish.

SPEARFISHING NORTH

Prices for charters

Mokes $1200 per day for 11 hours on the water, up to 6 spearo’s, departing from Marsden Cove marina or Whangarei Heads.
Great Barrier would need to be a 2 day minimum, as I’m based up Whangarei. $1300 per day as I have to cover towing costs. Departing from Sandspit. Up to 6 spearo’s.
Poor Nights Islands $850 per day, up to 6, departing from Tutukaka. We could hit North Reef and the Tutukaka coast on the way back.
Cape Brett, $1200 per day, up to 6 spearo’s. I usually meet the group at the BP Riverside Drive, Whangarei at 6:00am, they can leave their vehicles there, safe parking and catch a ride with me or follow me up to Te Uenga Bay.

Things to do in Taupo – World Freshwater Champs

 

FREE:-

Huka Falls – Drive

Spa Park – Enjoy a swim in the river or sit in the warm waters where the thermal flow meets the cool river water.

Whakaipo Bay – A beautiful untouched spot off Mapara Road to enjoy a swim in the lake.  From here you can walk the 14km trail to Kinloch (W2K)

Kinloch –  Enjoy the marina and café (Tipsy Trout)

Aratiatia Power Station – Rapids Road, in Summer the water is released each day at 10.00am, 12.00pm, 2.00pm and 4.00pm. 

 

WALKS/HIKES:-

Spa Park – Walk to the Huka Falls 45 minutes each way

W2K – From Whakaipo Bay to Kinloch (return) 14 km.

Take one of the shuttles from Taupo or National Park to the start of the Crossing.  The crossing is 19.4 km of rugged terrain with breathtaking views of the mountains and surrounds.

Mt Tauhara – Situated just 7km from Taupo this 2.8km walk is great for views across Lake Taupo and to the Mountains.  Enter off the Napier/Taupo Highway on Mountain Road.
